Theo is out for the season just when he was threatening to take his career to the next level. Walcott has always scored goals for Arsenal, but he has drawn polemic responses from fans, some of whom think that he sometimes lacks the football brain of a top player.

We too have had our doubts about him in the past but his form this season, when fit, has shown him to be a player of the highest calibre.

Arsene Wenger has admitted that his absence may force his hand in the transfer market this January.

“It has accelerated speculation first and of course my desire as well,” said Wenger of Walcott’s injury.
“Up front we lose Theo as a potential central forward and that’s maybe where we have to look outside.”

One player who we have always liked and feel is under used at his current club is the diminutive Italian Sebastian Giovinco. Nicknamed The Atomic Ant for his combination of size and energy Giovinco has always resembled a top player to us here at soccersweep. He’s quick, agile and causes all sorts of problems from a number of positions. He’s a great dribbler who generally makes things happen when he’s on the park.

The Metro says of Arsenal’s interest:

Arsenal have turned to Juventus attacker Sebastian Giovinco as they look to fill the gap left by Theo Walcott’s long-term injury.

Arsene Wenger confirmed this week he intends to raid the transfer market after the news that Walcott will not play for the next six months.

And it appears that the Gunners have already settled on an early target, with Juventus’ out-of-favour forward Giovinco being linked.

He’s only played for Juve 13 times this season (2 goals) and the report suggests that Arsenal may look at him as a short-term option. But we feel that if Arsenal do take him they will be suitably impressed to want to make the deal permanent. This guy would be a sensation in the pacey Premier League.

Let’s see him in action. Arsenal fans does Giovinco tickle your fancy?
