Perhaps when we all speculate about Arsenal spending big bucks on a striker in the transfer window we are all well wide of the mark. Just because Arsenal spent 40 million on a single player in the summer doesn’t mean that Arsene Wenger has lost his desire to unearth low-profile gems.
Lest we forget, as well as buying Mesut Ozil in the summer, he also invested a far small amount of casheesh in the youngster Yaya Sanogo. Injury and immaturity has limited the player to one senior appearance for Arsenal so far but news today suggests that Arsene Wenger is in for another youngster for the striking department.
Michy Batshuayi is yet another product of a golden generation of Belgian players. At 20 years of age he has already scored 32 goals in 80 appearances for Standard Liege. He’s also bagged five goals in just 10 appearances for the Belgian under 21 national side. The Guardian says:
Arsenal are also after a striker, now that Olivier Giroud’s brief flurry of accidental scoring is over. The latest player at whom they’re allegedly staring is Michy Batshuayi of Standard Liège, but have yet to offer the amount stipulated by his release clause
The second name to crop up again today, in relation to Arsenal, is Cheikhou Kouyate. The Anderlecht centre back, 24, is a monolith of a man and he looks as if he would be extremely hard to beat – mainly because he is about the width of a football pitch.
Everyone is into this story aswell and The Daily Star quotes the player’s agent:
Balkan said: “I have been in talks with representatives from Liverpool and Arsenal over Cheikhou Kouyate.
“Arsenal are very interested in Kouyate. It’s very likely that he’ll be joining a Premier League club soon.”
Kouyate’s performances for Senegal during the 2012 Olympics impressed Arsene Wenger but the Gunners were unable to secure a work permit at the time.
For the sake of entertainment we shall show you some clips from Michy Batshuayi in action. Arsenal fans – would this guy cut the mustard or should Arsene stop mucking about and get some big money out again?
