14 International Caps by Age 21: Arsenal linked to prodigy
Arsenal are continuing their pursuit of Brazil international Bernard. The Gunners are set to launch a bid to bring the 21-year-old to The Premier League on a season-long loan as they look to boost their attacking options according to The Daily Mirror.
Arsenal are on alert after Shakhtar Donetsk put Bernard up for a season-long loan
With the conflict in Ukraine still ongoing, Bernard has reportedly made it clear to the club that he would prefer to move out of the country. This has forced Shakhtar Donetsk to make the player available for loan, giving Arsene Wenger the opportunity to bring in a player at a cut-price.
While the North London side currently have plenty of players in attack, the speculation over the future of Lukas Podolski may mean that they have to look for replacements this summer.
The Gunners were linked with the Brazilian last summer before he left Atletico Minero to join Shakhtar Donetsk. That interest looks to have continued and the club are now ready to pounce for the highly rated winger.
The signing would look to continue Arsene Wenger’s plan of bringing in fast wide men to the club following the signing of Alexis Sanchez. A lack of pace on the flanks was pinpointed as a serious weakness last season and the Arsenal boss looks to be addressing that problem.
Bernard, in combination with other wingers such as Theo Walcott or Sanchez, would help stretch defences. This would provide more space for the likes of Mesut Ozil and Santi Carzola which would no doubt make Arsenal a far more deadly force in attack than in the past few seasons.
He was also part of the hugely disappointing Brazil team that crashed out of the 2014 World Cup against Brazil, though he only played a minor role throughout the competition. Despite that the 21-year-old has still managed to achieve 14 caps for his national side.
Since joining Shakhtar Donetsk he has only made 27 appearances in all competitions scoring a total of three goals, a disappointing return for the Brazilian.
