Arsenal: Decent deal off, Superb deal on? Reports

Arsenal have reportedly been on the trail of German international Sami Khedira for most of the summer.

And while there is of course still a possibility that the player will join the club, reports in Spain today suggest that Bayern München have jumped the queue for the signature of the player.

Marca reports:

Guardiola’s Bayern is having quiet words with Sami Khedira, although they won’t be reeling the German in to the Allianz Arena until next summer. The Bavarian club has got in contact with the midfielder to talk about a possible move in 2015, when the player’s contract with Real Madrid runs out.

Khedira would walk into the Arsenal team and improve it immediately. At 27 he’s a ready made winner. But, if that one doesn’t come off, it may prove a blessing in disguise.

Because reports from Portugal suggest that another apparent Arsenal target has been made available for sale. The Metro says:

Arsenal clear to sign William Carvalho as Sporting Lisbon put him up for sale

Signing Carvalho would of course represent more of a gamble for Arsenal. He’s very inexperienced and there is no guarantee that he would hit the ground running in England.

But he who dares wins and Carvalho has the potential to be as good as Patrick Viera, never mind Khedira. He’s got that same languid style at the legendary Frenchman. And, like Viera, he’s a pass master and excellent tackler.

Carvalho looks set to become one of the best midfielders in Europe in years to come and if Arsenal take the plunge they may have the excitement of seeing a world class star improving in front of their eyes on a weekly basis.

Let’s see him in full flow. Arsenal fans: would you prefer the experience of Khedira or the almost limitless potential of Carvalho?

I fully agree. As they say in football ‘if you don’t shoot you don’t score’. Take a punt Arsene. This guy is worth getting. He has a nice tough streak in him. Ability wise he is in the Paul Pogpa league. I hope Wenger gets him sooner rather than later, maybe even in time for the Community Shield. If Wenger does this I think we are on the way to winning the league. No more trouncings by City, Chelsea and Liverpool.

Wenger pls buy Carvaloh aready. I hate it when Wenger tries 2 be too smart or head strong. Do your business on time & concentrate on d seasons preparation

of course, William Carvalho is a good buy.
Arsène Wenger is not trying to be too smart or head strong. he is smart. that is why he is the manager.

Wenger had so far made 4 signings. Ospina and Debuchy were immediate replacement for the departed Fabianski and Sagna. While Sanchez and Calcum are the actual additions to strengthen the spine of the squad.

For years, Wenger had to contemplate with minimal transfer funds and in most cases, having to sell before he could buy. Since paying off the outstanding debt incurred from the Emirates project, he is now able spend what is required to build a squad capable of competing for top honours. The club’s record signing of Mesut Ozil last season, instantly brought them the FA cup.

The recent additions will guarantee that they finish within the top 4 this season. But they may still fall short in the race for the Premier League title, justified by the strength and depth of both Manchester City and Chelsea.

The inadequacy in the defensive central midfield role is one that Wenger had failed to administer. Despite transfer rumours circulating, nothing has materialised. Having seen Wenger’s unprecedented activity in the transfer market so far, it is optimistic that he will bring in someone of great calibre. Apart from this central midfield role, another area of concern is the centre forward position despite the arrival of Sanchez. The Issue here is whether Joel Campbell or Sanogo can fill the void left by Sanchez and Giroud upon injury or suspension.

Nevertheless, even if Wenger stops his transfer activity here, the coming season spells prospective for the Arsenal faithful.

decent comparison, even though Patty was also box to box more than Willy and more similar to sammy in that regard. I don’t think its as big a punt as some believe, the lads 21 and his athleticism and discipline would definitely help the transition(look at how much athleticism has grown in the game). Sammy class obviously, but he would have to adjust as well and has had a nasty knee injury, which he has bounced back from, but could be a issue now thats his older. In the end Carvalho would be my choice.

Would khedira rather play for arsenal, or is it just the money he’s after, if he wants to go back to Germany, let him go, carvalho is arsenals best bet

  7. Jordan says:

Really? You’d rather have Carvalho? He plays in the Portuguese league. He looks smooth there but I feel like he would look slow in the EPL. Khedira was injured all year and still was chosen for the finals of Chanpions League. He was chosen to start for the incredibly talented World Cup Champions team. Carvalho failed to dominate an above average US team. So my 1st chooses would be Bender because of injury concern and youth but then Khedira in a close 2nd. He is a great athlete and miles ahead of Carvalho.

  8. John says:

I would prefer Carvalho to Khedira, I have the believe he will perform excellently and adopt to premier league faster. The energy is there and he posses all the abilities needed to perform in premier league. Sir Wenger be fast about it.
