DANIEL STURRIDGE could be nearing the end of his time at Liverpool according to reports in The Sun – with Paris St Germain a possible destination.
The French club are prepared to offer £50million for the injury-prone striker who, despite being amongst the goals since returning from his latest setback, is believed to be considering his future at Anfield.
Sturridge was livid with manager Jurgen Klopp after being replaced just after the hour mark in both of the Reds’ recent games against Manchester United and Southampton and, although he only signed a new five-year contract last season, the 26-year-old could be on the move.
The Sun reports: “The Liverpool forward, who is considering his future at Anfield, is now on PSG’s wanted list as they prepare for the departure of Edinson Cavani.
“Uruguay hitman Cavani is expected to leave France and move to the Premier League in time for next season and there are also doubts about the future of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
“If Cavani finally leaves it will open up a space in PSG’s squad and Sturridge is at the top of the list of potential replacements.”
While Klopp insists he doesn’t want to sell Sturridge, he has also made it clear he will never keep an unhappy player at the club.
With fellow forward Christian Benteke out of favour, Liverpool can ill-afford to lose Sturridge.
That said, although he’s been prolific in front of goal, the England man has hardly been someone the Reds can rely on having missed as many matches through injury as he’s played since arriving at Anfield.
As for PSG, £50m would be a massive gamble on a player with Sturridge’s chronic injury record.
There’s no doubt he’ll score goals wherever he goes but for that sort of money, you want someone who doesn’t spend half his time in the treatment room.
