Barcelona

Great News For Barcelona?

It’s been a terribly drab January transfer window for Barcelona. Normally the rumours would be flying around at top speed about who the Catalan giants were trying to sign in order to boost their challenge for trophies.

But the transfer ban has put a stop to all that and Barcelona have had to watch from afar as their biggest rivals have signed two top youngsters so far this winter.

And while Barcelona fans wouldn’t wish catastrophe on anyone, they may be slightly enthused by the news that Madrid themselves are now under investigation by FIFA over their transfer history.

If they have to endure their own ban then it might level the playing field once more. Because you do feel that, over the last two windows, Madrid have started to get away from Barcelona to a degree. In the summer Barca signed Luis Suarez. However slow his start at The Camp Nou, he is going to become a superstar. But beyond that, none of the other signings have really done the business.

Martin Odegaard and Lucas Silva might both have interested Barca, had they been able to deal. But they have gone to Madrid and the power shift seems to be continuing.

But any transfer ban for Madrid could allow Barcelona to drag themselves back into the reckoning and sign a few top talents that Los Blancos might otherwise have scooped up.
