Sublime duo

If we had written this a year ago most would have laughed. Manchester United were yet to break through the £35m million mark pre-Juan Mata and looked as if they weren’t able to compete with the biggest budgets in world football.

But £150m and a summer of superstar purchase later, anything seems possible. It certainly appears that Manchester United aren’t afraid to break the world record for a player as Louis van Gaal attempts to put together the best team in the world.

Indeed, the biggest obstacle no longer appears to be casheesh but availabilty.

Tabloid reports today suggest that Manchester United are prepared to blow over £200m on two of the world’s best this summer:

Real Madrid WILL accept a £150million transfer offer from Manchester United for Gareth Bale, the Metro claims.

and

Manchester United will try and out-gun Arsenal in the race to sign Edinson Cavani, according to French newspaper Le 10 Sport.

It is reported that United will offer £62million, as the Old Trafford side are expected to have the financial muscle to outbid Arsenal for the goal machine.

Bale has done well in Spain but we think that his style is more suited to The Premier League than the more tiki taka Spanish La Liga.

He’d be an absolute sensation at Manchester United and we have a feeling that Real Madrid may be prepared to do business this summer and perhaps replace Bale with Marco Reus.

As for Cavani, at his best he’s probably not quite as good as Falcao at his best. He’s got a similar goal scoring record but perhaps doesn’t have the flamboyant skill. Still he would be a goal machine in England and we think he’d be another who would do well at Manchester United.

But our big concern is the age of some of the players being linked. Cavani is 28 next month and we would rather see younger stars come in – players who will improve over time and have some sell on value if they do want to leave.

But you wouldn’t exactly complain about either signing.

Let’s see Bale in flight. United fans: any chance?
