ARSENAL midfielder Jack Wilshere could be set for a shock move to Manchester City, according to several sources.
Incoming City boss Pep Guardiola added German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan earlier this week, but The Sun claim he is keen to add another English player to his squad.
The paper reports: “Premier League squads can contain a maximum of 17 foreign players while Uefa rules are stricter.
“In a 25-man squad, 17 can be foreign but at least half of the home contingent must have spent at least three years at an English club between the ages of 15 and 21.”
Currently there are only three Englishmen at the Etihad – Joe Hart, Fabian Delph and Raheem Sterling.
It’s not there first time City have been linked with Wilshere, Guardiola’s predecessor Manuel Pellegrini was interested last summer.
However, any chance of a move then was scuppered when the England international – who still has two years left on his current Arsenal deal – broke his leg in pre-season.
Injury has been an all-too-often occurrence for the 24-year-old and it would be something of a risk for Guardiola, particularly given that Gundogan isn’t due to return from injury himself until September.
Despite having come up through the Gunners’ academy, we feel the switch might appeal to Wilshere, particularly as Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has already bolstered his midfield ahead of next season with the signing of Granit Xhaka.
