MANCHESTER UNITED are preparing a move for Alvaro Morata according to reports in Italy.
Arsenal and Paris St Germain have also been linked with the Juventus striker, however he is said to prefer a switch to Old Trafford.
The 23-year-old has been in impressive form for the Serie A outfit this season, scoring seven goals and providing 12 assists in his 45 appearances.
Morata only recently signed a contract extension to keep him with the Italian champions until 2020, but he looks set for a move back to former club Real Madrid this summer if they choose to activate the £23million buy-back clause in his contract.
The Spanish giants then hope to sell the Spain international straight away and make a handsome profit.
Tuttosport reports: “United are considering a bid of around £40m to bring the promising attacker to Manchester.
“Making a move for Morata could also mark the end of Memphis Depay’s miserable run with the Red Devils, as the £25m flop from PSV Eindhoven has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, with several rival Premier League clubs believed to be interested.
“The 22-year-old Holland international recently asked for assurances over his future after only playing four full matches for United in 2016.”
Morata would be a good addition for United but seven goals in 45 appearances is not prolific by any means.
After such a poor season in terms of goalscoring – managing to find the net just 46 times in 37 Premier League games – do the Red Devils need someone with a better strike rate?
