LIVERPOOL’s hopes of signing Hatem Ben Arfa have been boosted after the playmaker confirmed he is not moving to Barcelona.
The former Newcastle man has been in sparkling form this season for Nice, having reignited his career in his native France after a disappointing spell at Hull following his sacking by the Magpies.
The attacking midfielder has scored 17 goals in 36 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit this campaign which has reportedly caught the attention of Europe’s top clubs.
The Daily Express reports: “Ben Arfa was believed to be flying to Barcelona this week to discuss terms with the Spanish giants but he revealed there is no truth in a move to the Nou Camp.
“I’m not travelling abroad, contrary to what I read. I am in Nice,” he said.
“On the contrary, I am 100 per cent focused on my goals with Nice.”
However, Liverpool remain hopeful they can convince Ben Arfa to return to the Premier League and the talented France international – who is out of contract in June – didn’t exactly rule out the option when he told L’Equipe last month that ‘his advisers’ were handling things when asked about a switch to Anfield.
“I don’t like to talk about it, I have advisers who take care of these things and I am focused on the club’s objectives,” he said.
There’s no doubting Ben Arfa’s immense talent. On his day he can torment the world’s best defences but he does have a history of disciplinary problems and that would is something Reds boss Jurgen Klopp would have to weigh up.
Liverpool fans, is Ben Arfa worth a gamble?
