LIVERPOOL appear to be edging closer to signing Mario Gotze this summer, if the bookmakers are to be believed.
The odds on the 23-year-old swapping Bayern Munich for Merseyside have plummeted, with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp keen to link up with his former Dortmund striker.
The Daily Star reports: “NetBet and 10Bet are offering odds of just 11/10 for the Bayern Munich star to swap the Allianz Arena for Anfield when the transfer window reopens.
“Jurgen Klopp worked with Gotze, 23, at Borussia Dortmund and the pair are still close.
“Gotze played the best football of his career under Klopp but has struggled over the past couple of season at Bayern Munich.”
Indeed, Gotze has fallen well down in the pecking order of attacking options at the German champions and is understood to be open to leaving for a fresh start elsewhere.
While his form has dipped since he scored Germany’s winner in the 2014 World Cup final, so too has his value, dropping from around £43million to ‘just’ £27m due to his lack of form and fitness.
Despite the mounting Liverpool rumours, Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge recently claimed he is not aware of Gotze’s future plans.
“The length of his contract is known,” Rummenigge said.
“I don’t know any more. Neither he nor his advisor have stated anything publicly. So everything is speculation.”

Alex, the bookmakers are offering the price. It’s fact, not rumour!
