MANCHESTER UNITED flop Memphis Depay could make a stunning move to Liverpool this summer.
United chiefs are believed to have finally lost patience with the misfiring winger after less than a year with the club.
Depay, who completed a £25million move from PSV to Old Trafford last summer, was tipped to be one of the most exciting newcomers to the Premier League this season after his superb campaign and outstanding goalscoring record in the Dutch Eredivisie last year.
But the 22-year-old has managed just two league goals this season and Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal – himself under immense pressure – has now sanctioned his move away from Old Trafford in a bid to try to recoup some of the money they forked out for the Holland international.
The Daily Mirror reports: “It was last May that (United chief-executive) Ed Woodward managed to pip Premier League rivals Liverpool to the 22-year-old’s signature, and the Reds could well reignite their interest if the winger becomes available at a cut-price deal this summer.
“A number of clubs in England and across the continent have expressed their interest in Depay.”
Depay hasn’t shone so far this campaign but we don’t believe United will dump him after just one season – it’s been proven time and again that many players new to the English game take a good season or so to adjust to the pace and intensity.
Much may depend on who’s in charge at United next season but it’s very unlikely they’d sell to their bitter rivals Liverpool even if they did let Depay go.
