Jurgen Klopp explains Sturridge omission

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has given the reason behind his decision to select Divock Origi ahead of England striker Daniel Sturridge.

The former Borussia Dortmund manager described the selection of the young Belgian as a wise decision following Sturridge’s injury-plagued season.

He was dropped at Westfalenstadion on Thursday night in the Europa League quarter final game that saw Liverpool draw 1-1 with Dortmund.

“We thought it would make sense to start with Divock – it’s nothing about Daniel,” Klopp told reporters.

“Daniel played the last few games. It’s completely normal, a completely normal thing in football. Now he is fresh and can play against Stoke, that’s good for us.

“He came in and immediately had a brilliant moment. You could see how strong he is in one second. Nobody can say what would have happened if we had started with Daniel, maybe we would have been better, I don’t know, but it was a decision.”

Liverpool face Stoke City in the Premier League on Sunday at Anfield where the ‘Reds’ fans can have a view of their forward in action.
