Jurgen Klopp has kept his cards close to his chest with regards January transfers and we wondered whether he would continue to assess his Liverpool squad this month before opening the war chest fully in the summer.
But, in a welcome boost to Liverpool fans, he has reportedly signalled his intentions by making a move for Shaktar Donetsk forward Alex Teixeira.
The player has also been strongly linked with Chelsea but that bastion of verity, The BBC, reported today:
Liverpool have made an approach to sign Shakhtar Donetsk’s Brazilian attacker Alex Teixeira as Jurgen Klopp attempts to secure his first major signing since becoming manager at Anfield.
Any successful squad needs depth and the beauty of Teixeira is that he can play in several positions to equally good effect. He has hit a barely credible 26 goals in 25 games for Shaktar this season but he’s not even a conventional number 9.
That said, we can’t help thinking that if Teixeira does arrive, it could spell even more trouble for Chistian Benteke.
In a potentially bizarre case of history repeating itself Liverpool’s big summer signing seems ill-suited to Klopp’s style in the same way that Andy Carroll was ill-suited to Brendan Rodgers’ methods. We wonder if the same outcome will result.
So what would be Liverpool’s strongest line up if the Brazilian did arrive at Anfield?

On current form lovren should get in i think skrtel is the problem in defence sakho and lovren arnt comfortable with him making them look bad also coutinho drops deeper ahead of milner and sturridge up to.

We need to replace Milner and lallana because their rubbish . Teixiera would be a great signing but I doubt ayres will be able to pull it off . If Chelsea couldn’t do a deal I doubt we’re be able to .
