With the January transfer window coming to the business end the management at Manchester United were given a timely reminder of the young quality already at their disposal as Adnan Januzaj hit a brace for the reserves on Monday evening.
The young Belgium international was reintroduced to the squad at the start of the month after a failed loan spell at Borussia Dortmund and started in the 4-0 drubbing of Southampton U21s, where he scored two beautifully taken goals to remind everyone of his still blossoming talents.
His temperament has been the subject of time debate in recent times with Borussia coach Thomas Tuchel saying at the start of January:
“It is a pity he did not show the desire and attitude you need to progress at his age.
“My feeling was that he never was completely with us, that a part of him always stayed in Manchester and he compared everything here with United.
“We were not able to help him to shake that off.”
But, having had such an amazing start to his career at Manchester United, it’s understandable that he has been a little disappointed by what has followed.
And he looked less than delighted with his goals on Monday, giving a shrug after each. But Sir Alex Ferguson always liked his players to have a measure of arrogance about them and perhaps Adnan can still kick on this season in the Manchester United first team.
If Manchester United don’t succeed in signing another forward in this window then Januzaj can surely expect more minutes as the season progresses.
