Biggest game yet?

Manchester United’s embattled manager Louis van Gaal possibly has the biggest game of his tenure at the weekend.

After just one win in 8 in the league, he may well find his position untenable if Manchester United lose against their fiercest rivals at Anfield on Sunday.

So the injury news is critical and he gave an update to Manchester United’s in-house TV channel MUTV, ahead of the game.

Phil Jones, Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw are still out and not expected to be fit for some time.

Marcos Rojo still hasn’t recovered either and Michael Carrick will, sadly, also miss the crucial encounter. His absence is a real blow for a Manchester United team which could really have used his composure at Anfield.

The Manchester United boss kept his cards close to his chest about Bastian Schweinsteiger who got injured last weekend against Sheffield United in the FA Cup.

That he is even in contention is a relief considering the the way he went down after a heavy challenge. The arm went up straight away and it looked like a really bad one. But Van Gaal said on Friday afternoon:

“I think we have the same injuries as before, maybe Schweinsteiger is coming back but that is not sure. It is very tight to regain [full fitness] I think, he needs more time I think. Carrick, he is also injured, we have forgotten to mention it but he was injured. He is still injured so he cannot play either.”

We will of course keep you updated throughout the afternoon with a full report on the press conference.
