Empty seats, laughable performance and a hollow victory – what does it take to get sacked at Manchester United these days?

Unbelievable

We can’t help thinking that Manchester United’s executive vice Chairman Ed Woodward has been paralysed by fear in relation to Louis van Gaal.

At most clubs a record of 1 win in 9 before Saturday would have got the boss of many a relegation threatened club fired – let alone the manager of Manchester United.

We understand that short-termist decisions aren’t always in the best interests of the club.

But, for us, it’s clear to see that Louis van Gaal has lost the dressing room, lost the fans and lost the plot in terms of how to coach this team.

By the 70 minute mark a substantial amount of United fans had left the ground, as was clear to see from the television cameras.

We keep hearing the references to Alex Ferguson and how he too was nearly sacked before beating Nottingham Forest in the cup all those years ago, at the start of Manchester United’s glory years.

But these references are ludicrous.

Fergie had the bit between his teeth and patently wanted to manage the team long-term.

Meanwhile it is clear that this will be Louis van Gaal’s last job as manager before retirement. He’s got a year left in the Manchester United job at most.

The performance against Sheffield United was shocking. There is no other way of putting it and anyone at Manchester United who tries to justify it, by saying that the result is all that matters, is dangerously naive to how badly the club is slipping off the pace.

Jose Mourinho is free. At just 49, Jose Mourinho is the same age as Fergie was when he won his first title with Manchester United. Jose Mourinho really is ready to build an empire after moving from club to club every 3 years, or less, so far in his career.

He may not be the ‘perfect’ manager for Manchester United according to many (not us by the way). But he would be a vast improvement on LvG at a club which is going south alarmingly quickly.

If Woodward can’t see this then perhaps it is he who should be sacked as matter of priority.

Totally agree with this article. Mourinho would be perfect. He will want to prove a point to Chelsea for letting him go. Please sack Van gal, I want to get back to enjoying watching United again and not feel very angry with the whole situation.

I’m team Jose. He wants the job and is world wide respected. Players want to play and sign for him. He could create a team to challenge for years. Louis Van Gormless retires at the end of next season. He’s not arsed about United. It’s his final payday. You can tell his enthusiasm by watching him sat on his chair at matches. Doesn’t budge, doesn’t chat with Giggsy doesn’t motivate the team in any way. Just clutches his black folder which has his retirement plan in. The board need to act now. Thus season is far from over. We are only 9pts off the top, still in FA cup and Europe League. WE NEED THE CHANGE NOW DURING THIS WINDOW.
