Some Arsenal fans have wanted to see the back of Arsene Wenger for years.
The feeling in some quarters is that he is a top man and a decent coach but one lacking that ruthlessness on the pitch or in the transfer market to turn Arsenal into serial winners once more.
That contingent may be interested to hear that latest reports suggest that Pep Guardiola has put Arsenal on his shortlist of desired clubs to manage next in his career.
The Daily Mail states:
‘high-level sources have added Arsenal to the shortlist for Guardiola, who is a huge fan of their style of football under Arsene Wenger.’
With the editor of The Mail Online, Piers Morgan, being an Arsenal fan perhaps there is some substance to this one.
Guardiola’s Bayern München contract expires at the end of this season and he may well leave the club this summer, with a decision expected next week.
But the identity of his next club is likely to remain shrouded in mystery until closer to the end of the season.
Arsenal’s squad list and style of play would surely appeal to Guardiola who recently stated that
“What I want, my desire, is to have 100% possession,”
With Arsenal struggling at the latter stages of the big competitions at home and abroad in recent years, Guardiola may be the missing link to get them over the line.
The Spaniard has won The Champions League twice and 5 domestic titles in just 8 years of football management.
