Embattled Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal tends to keep his cards very close to his chest in relation to signings.
But, be it a purposeful strategy or not, he has name checked several players before making moves for them.
He did it, successfully, with Angel di Maria and he did it unsuccessfully (so far) with Neymar.
After yet another bore draw, this time with West Ham in The Premier League at Old Trafford on Saturday, he name checked another couple of players who would surely give this team the right sort of edge in the finishing department.
In response to questions about a lack of goals from this Manchester United team he said:
“The question is would Luis Suarez or Sergio Aguero score if they were here?” Van Gaal told BBC Radio Manchester.
“That is a question mark. You never know. I think they would, though.”
“We’ve created enough chances to score, so that was not the problem.”
Since Louis took the reins at the club, Manchester United have been very ambitious in their transfer plans. There is a genuine feeling that they want sign, and can afford to sign, a true world star.
They did bring in Angel di Maria but he failed to impress the boss and wanted out after a year.
As for Aguero and Suarez, neither look remotely gettable right now but Manchester United have the funds and desire to bring in such players.
January is a very difficult time to sign players and perhaps the bet Manchester United fans can hope for is Sadio Mane or, at a real stretch the excellent Marco Reus.
But they will likely have to wait until the summer before the chances of signing a top tier international improve.
