Chelsea look seriously keen on Shaktar Donetsk attacking midfielder Alex Teixeira and the player himself has intimated this week that he will probably have to make a straight choice between The Blues and Juventus.
He’s a player who simply can’t stop scoring. At 25 he seems to be coming into his absolute pomp and he has 22 goals in just 21 games for his club this season.
What is remarkable is that he still hasn’t played at senior level for Brazil, despite the fortunes of the current Brazil set up.
So where would he play at Chelsea?
Jose Mourinho virtually always goes with a 4-2-3-1 so Teixeira is likely to play in one of the positions behind the front man.
With the likes of Hazard, Willian and Pedro battling it out for wide positions, Teixeira would more than likely be asked to play in the hole.
It’s a position which nobody has really nailed down this season. The mercurial Oscar has not played consistently well there. Kenedy is talented but still raw. And Cesc Fabregas looks better in a deeper role these days, alongside Matic or Ramires.
So that number 10 position is there for the taking.
We think that a team with Teixeira behind Costa would be absolutely full of goals. The front men could count on great service from the wide areas and from deep, with Cesc pulling the strings and pinging balls around from that quarter back position.
So here is our Chelsea XI with Teixeira and it does look like a very complete side.
Chelsea fans: does this mean the end for Oscar?
