As meteoric rises go they don’t come much bigger than that of Leicester striker Jamie Vardy.
A couple of weeks ago the man who came from Fleetwood Town was linked to a move to Real Madrid in what we saw as little more than idle tabloid speculation and a truly wonderful paper clipping for the striker.
But the rumours have persisted and British media outlet, The Daily Mail, now reports that Barcelona want a piece of the action.
Real Madrid and Barcelona had detailed scouts to check on Jamie Vardy until injury ruled him out of England’s friendly against Spain in Alicante.
The 28 year old is the surprise leading goal scorer in The Premier League after 12 games with a dozen goals to his name.
He has been superb this season and offers pace and hard work as well as shooting prowess.
But the idea of him lining up alongside the likes of Suarez, Messi and Neymar is difficult to fathom.
In reality he is not going to get in the team ahead of those guys, so if he did sign for Barcelona, it would be as a bench warmer and back up.
So while the move may be tempting it could actually destroy the career of a player who has just broken into the England fold.
Let’s see the player in action.
Barcelona fans: is there any real interest or is this move impossible to imagine?
