‘I want to buy a lot of players’ says Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal as he suggests that a winger will be at the top of the transfer list in January

Another splurge?

Manchester United aren’t exactly flying at the moment.

But, with Chelsea and Liverpool suffering defeats at the weekend, Manchester United fans can at least look at results and take heart.

But Louis van Gaal knows as well as anyone that this team still needs improvement and he intimated in his latest public utterances, that he wants to buy a winger.

He is quoted in The Manchester Evening News as saying:

“I have said already in my first year many times we need speed and creativity on the wings.

“You have seen that now we play with Jesse Lingard and he is not the most speedy winger in the world and Mata is also not the most speedy winger in the world.

“So first we must first finish that problem and then we can see how we have to play and how we are in balance with playing with speedy wingers.”

“It is also dependable on what I can buy. I want to buy a lot of players but not all the players I want are for sale. So there are a lot of factors in it.

Manchester United were linked to all sorts of players in the summer and many of these were wide men.

We could not agree more with the idea that extra pace on the wings is needed.

But, as well as buying in more pace and guile we would like to see Memphis given more time and opportunities to deliver.

For our money he has the lot and simply needs to add consistency to his dazzling skill set.

When he does so, he can become one of the very best.
