LvG: Manchester United Substitution Tactical

Mata is finally demonstrating his wizardry under Louis van Gaal

Tactical

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal once more surprised pretty much everyone on Saturday by bringing Jesse Lingard on for Juan Mata at half time in the game against Everton.

With players like Pereira and Memphis on the bench most would have expected one of the those two to replace Mata.

But Lingered was given his big chance to the amazement of many.

He acquitted himself fairly well and showed decent composure and good pace on that right flank.

He may well be a good option to add energy out there at certain points of the season.

And, mercifully, the manager confirmed after the game that Mata was removed for tactical reasons rather than through injury:

It was a tactical change and I think that Jesse Lingard played a very good second half

With Mata in good form for Manchester United – he was the player of the month for September – Louis van Gaal will need him for the coming weeks.

But he has played an awful lot of football already this season and it was the right decision to give him a rest.

But the introduction of Lingard shocked many and may be a sign of a bright future at Manchester United for the young Englishman.
