Many areas of the sports media seem to think that what Manchester United need most, before the end of the window, is a striker.
With Wayne Rooney seriously off form so far this season, the theory is that Manchester United won’t get anywhere unless they bring in another number 9.
We think that is nonsense.
Because, at his best, Rooney is irrefutably world class. And, at 29, he is supposed to be in his absolute pomp as a footballer.
Yes, he has done more miles than most as a footballer.
But you have to imagine that he has a decent chance of getting back to top form.
Certainly soccersweep would back him to do so.
So Manchester United have a potentially world class centre forward. But how about the right flank? There isn’t a player even close to being called world class out there.
Juan Mata looks like a poor attempt at a winger who tries but fails to cover the ground or make decent runs down the flank.
Meanwhile, Young and Valencia are good athletes but lack finesse. For our money, both would be better options than Mata on Manchester United’s right but LvG steadfastly continues with the diminutive Spaniard.
We feel that Manchester United are struggling to create chances. To get behind defences. They have a top striker if he can get the service.
But, currently, he just isn’t getting it.
For this reason we strongly believe that Manchester United should spend all of their energy on signing a right winger in the last day of the window.
What Manchester United need right now is a player like Griezmann or Reus – a player who can make things happen.

Comment: I have been saying this for quite sometime now. Griezmann and Reus would be the perfect signings for Manutd. They would be a long time investments. just imagine having these two world class, insanely creative and incredibly pacey attackers in Manutd colours spearheading the front line along side Rooney or any other top class striker for that matter. We would simply be UNSTOPPABLE.
