Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is in the critical moments of his career at Manchester United and there is now a huge elephant in the room. His name is Sergio Romero.
Even before the comical error, where he jumped over the ball for the second goal as if he was trying to avoid it altogether, we were watching Sergio Romero’s performance with all the ease of a City fan in the Stretford end.
He is an accident waiting to happen and doesn’t even look as if goalkeeper is his best position. His kicking is wild. He looks sluggish and miles off the pace with his positioning. He was like a rabbit in the headlights for most of the time against Swansea – overawed by the size of the job.
Manchester United fans have been spoilt with the immaculate service of David de Gea but they should expect a better back up keeper than this.
It’s probably too late to get another top keeper in so Manchester United simply must pull out all the stops to keep the Spaniard. Otherwise their season will be in tatters.
Romero is simply not Manchester United quality and all the good that the outfield players do this season will be for nought if they have a substandard keeper in between the sticks.

Sam Johnstone is light years better than Romero. He knows how to command his box and he has good placement with his feet. He also played very well on the preseason tour. Romero has none of these qualities!!! Can’t imagine what van gaal sees in Romero…Whatever it is NO ONE ELSE in the entire world is capable of seeing what van gaal sees…only van gaal.

Comment: No . Romero is not the problem. He is just scapegoat for british fans and media. When Rooney misses three clear cut chances you dont blame it on Romero. When Rooney loses the ball easily that is not Romero’s fault. When Rooney fails to chase back after losing the ball you dont blame Romero. The fact that Rooney cant use his left foot to shoot is not Romero’s fault. Let us speak the truth and only the truth shall set us free. And the truth is Rooney is not upto the task , period.
