Manchester United: Wayne Rooney losing his edge? Dream On

Rooney: Just watch him go when he gets fit

No worries at all

Our second favourite football source, The Guardian, has put our noses out of joint somewhat this weekend.

Because they start by saying:

“Two games into the new season is no time to be making snap judgments”

Rooney: Just watch him go when he gets fit

Rooney: Just watch him go when he gets fit

and then immediately make a snap judgement about Wayne Rooney that:

“the games against Tottenham and Aston Villa have been a reminder of his diminished ability

Rooney turns 30 in two months and no longer has the dynamism of old. His mobility is leaving him and, while he can still be expected to finish the season with a reasonable total, he doesn’t menace defences in the way he used to.”

Has Daniel Taylor followed Wayne Rooney’s career at all, we wonder?

Because anyone who watches Manchester United with any regularity will know that Rooney needs games to find his sharpness.

He’s a big lad who finds it impossible reach top form as soon as the season starts.

And, of course he doesn’t have quite the explosiveness of his early twenties – who does?

But to say that the ability of the Manchester United captain is ‘diminished’ after just two formative games of the new season is naive.

We would rather have Rooney up top in our Premier League club than any other number 9. That includes Aguero, Suarez, Cavani. Name who you like. We will take Rooney thanks. Because he has and will continue to drag Manchester United through some games almost single-handedly. Few other players worldwide can influence matches like the Englishman. Not just in terms of goals but all round presence and strength.

If he can be left up top to find his fitness and form, he will be a devastating striker for Manchester United this season.

At 29 he’s in his prime. He knows this league and club inside out and if he can get decent support from his team mates, he will hit 30 goals for club and country without a problem.

Saying that you don’t want to make snap judgements before immediately making a snap judgement about the demise of a player is dangerous – particularly when Wayne Rooney is the subject of the discussion.

Manchester United fans: confident that Wazza will fire again this season?

I consider the writer of this article to be a blind lover of Rooney and not a lover of football or Manchester united Fc. Rooney’s diminishing has started from the final year of Sir Alex…3years ago, that was why SAF went for Van Persi, which later brought us the trophy. Van gal is also committing suicidal blunders by not giving the other strikers on our bench the chance by substituting Rooney… even if he feels like he needed game time or because of his complicated love for him. We have played short of a player in our last 2 matches and Van Gal with his sentimental no-nonsense policy wouldn’t have given that same sentimental leniency to any other player. Van Gal is destroying the reputation and the fundamental legacy of Manchester united Fc and I wouldn’t pay 25million for a no flair player like Rooney if own a club

Rooney has been in decline for 2-3 years now and will only get worse. His first touch has never been any good and his dynamism has wilted over the past couple of years. Time to move him on nx summer.

Rooney is the only reason man Utd has held up since SAF retired, poor support and underperforming teammates obviously meant he scored less goals, last season he scored 12 from tge midfield, his diversity of play and football intelligence are needed, everyone has a bad run of form sometime. Silence will be beheld when he does what he does best.

Comment:you guys are all crazy to think rooney won’t score goals for us.sure he isn’t what he was 5 years ago but come on, who is? If you ask me, you shouldn’t blame the player but the coach who takes advantage of his versatility to play him in midfield and make him lose his deadly first touch and goal scoring ability. Lvg playing him in midfield last season didn’t really help him also but he still managed to be our top scorer. Let’s not yet lose faith in wazza cause as he has proved from previous seasons, he can and will score a lot of goals

Rooney hasn’t been a top striker for a while now.hes good as a supporting stricker or a no10. We need young hungry stricker. Wouldn’t mind if we sign kane for £50 or muller for a record fee.
