With talk of Brazilian midfielder Lucas finally leaving Liverpool this summer, boss Brendan Rodgers may look to add one more dynamo for the engine room.

We have to say that we think Liverpool look really strong in there already.

With Jordan Henderson still improving and James Milner a nailed on starter next to him, it’s a great first choice midfield pairing.

And we have always been fans of Emre Can – one of Brendan Rodgers better signings – who we would like to see more of this season.

But when a really top player comes along then you have to act, no matter how strong you are in that department.

Furthermore, we feel that four is the perfect number of central midfielders to have in a top squad. And Asier Illaramendi would be a great buy.

The Express reckons:

Illarramendi has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield this summer after struggling to gain a regular place at the Bernabeu for the past two seasons.

And The Metro states:

Liverpool could finally land Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi this summer after the Spanish giants reportedly decided to offload the the 25-year-old.

At 25 the Spaniard can count himself very unlucky not too have played more games for Real Madrid. He has still appeared 90 times over the space of three seasons since joining from Real Soceidad for a whopping 39m Euros in 2013.

But many of those appearances have come off the bench and, with Toni Kroos and Luka Modric ahead of him in the pecking order, the future looks a little bleak at Real Madrid.

We do feel that, while his place wouldn’t be guaranteed here either, a move to Liverpool would help his stalling career for club and country.

He’s a strong, athletic and tough tackling player who also has the sort of technique that we have come to expect of top Spanish players.

We think that he has all the qualities to be a hit at Liverpool and might even force Brendan Rodgers to change his formation in order to accommodate three central midfielders.

Let’s take look at him in action.
