Manchester United: Deal Confirmed

After weeks of speculation Manchester United have today confirmed that they have agreed a new three year deal with ex-England international winger Ashley Young. Louis van Gaal said:

“We are delighted that Ashley has signed a new contract,”

“Ashley is a very multi-functional player.

He took to the wing-back position with great confidence and flourished on the wing throughout last season. Ashley is always very professional and has a great presence in the dressing room.”

Few Manchester United players have drawn such polemic opinions and we have never hidden our feelings about Young.

Increasingly in top level football your team is only as good as your front three.

When you go down the list of the top ten teams in Europe they are generally ordered by how good that front three is.

And Young would be lucky to get in the front three of any of the elite clubs in Europe but has found a home at Manchester United on the left wing under Louis van Gaal.

Even Van Gaal himself admits that Young is no Neymar.

But what is irrefutable is that the lad has given his all to Manchester United and enjoyed easily is best form over the last year.

Young: Hard Worker

Young: Hard Worker

If nothing else he is a decent all-rounder and a committed and disciplined utility player with decent speed and great athleticism.

Young may lack guile and finesse but the Manchester United squad is stronger with him than without him and he has earned his new deal.

Let’s take a look at some of his better moments for the club.

Manchester United fans: can the club win silverware this season with Young starting?
