Barcelona haven’t had the best pre-season as they lost to Manchester United and then Chelsea, on penalties.
While the absence of their two superstars, Lionel Messi and Neymar, for most of the tour has obviously had a huge impact on the quality of the side, the defending hasn’t been great either.
Manchester United’s Adnan Januzaj was given far too much space for United’s third goal.
What’s more the keeper and defence were at sixes and sevens as Gary Cahill stole in to score for Chelsea in a game which ended 2-2 on Tuesday (Chelsea won on penalties).
So we expect Barcelona to sign a defender or two when their ban is lifted – they might even do a deal sooner, like we saw with Aleix Vidal and Arda Turan – and two names have been linked of late.
Mundo Deportivo reports that Jan Vertonghen and Alberto Moreno are among those being considered for defensive reinforcements by Barcelona.
Barca haven’t had great luck with Belgian defenders of late with Thomas Vermaelen only playing one game for the Catalans since he joined the club last summer.
But his fellow countryman Jan Vertonghen – who has played 69 times for a very strong Belgium side and scored 5 goals – has no such fitness issues and has been one of the best centre backs in The Premier League for the last couple of years.
He is part of an exciting project at Spurs right now.
But few players can resist the pull of Barcelona and this lad certainly has the technique to play for this great club.
He’s also a solid defender and wouldn’t let Barcelona down.
Let’s take a look at the lad in action.
