Manchester United don’t want to lose Angel di Maria just a year after signing him for £59.7m.
But the humane Louis van Gaal seems willing to let the player go if it means that he will be happier in his life and career.
But PSG would be exceedingly lucky to get a player of this calibre when he is only one year into a long-term contract.
All this makes the level of the bid that they have made so far, according to reports, one of the most scandalous and cheeky raids that you will hear about this summer.
The Guardian says:
Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are in advanced negotiations for Ángel Di María, with the French club having offered €40m (£28.5m) to buy the 27-year-old.
The fee is less than half the British record £59.7m United paid Real Madrid for Di María 12 months ago. Ed Woodward, the executive vice-chairman, is thought to be resisting PSG’s offer as he seeks a higher price.
If PSG really want him then they are going to have to show some respect.
Manchester United are desperate for more pace and penetration out wide so it’s difficult to have to let go of a player who offers precisely that.
If Manchester Untied do lose him they will at least want to recoup most of the money that they spent a year ago.
A bid of 28.5m is nothing less than derisory and it would lead many clubs to halt negotiations there and then.
Di Maria hasn’t had a great season but he is still in the elite bracket of footballers worldwide and Manchester United are going to want to save face with the fee if they have to lose him.
This bid is insulting and hopefully the club will drive a much harder bargain for the services of the want away Argentinian.
