It’s not exactly a revelation when a man says that he wants to play for Barcelona – don’t we all mate.
But a few lucky souls have the potential to do so and one of them is perhaps 25 year old Tunisia international Aymen Abdennour.
He only joined Monaco last season but made a big impact, playing 18 times for the prestigious French outfit. The 6ft 2in centre back’s stock has since risen and this has lead him to speculate about his future. He is quoted as saying:
“I will only leave Monaco to play in the Champions League. My president has told me that he will only let me leave for a big club. If the one that wants me is not a big club, I do not move from here. I would like to go to a big club and that’s what Barca is.”
Aymen to that!
There is no suggestion that Barcelona are immediately interested in the player. But he is an interesting prospect.
He’s tough in the tackle and no nonsense in his defending.
But Adennour also has the sort of technical ability that might endear him to Barcelona’s style of play.
And the centre of defence may require some investment in the not too distant future.
Gerard Pique had a dip last season but recovered well.
But Jeremy Mathieu is 31 and hasn’t cemented his place in the side.
And while Javier Mascherano has performed admirably at centre back, he is still a midfielder by trade.
As for Thomas Vermaelen the jury is well and truly still out after so little game time at the club since he joined last summer.
Let’s see Abdennour in action.
Barcelona fans: could he make the grade at El Camp Nou?
