Reports over the weekend have suggested that Manchester United may make a last minute bid for a player supposedly destined for Chelsea. The Mirror reckons that:
Asmir Begovic targeted as Red Devils look to hijack Chelsea’s £8m bid
We would simply ask why it’s taken this long to make a move for a player who is easily one of the best keepers in The Premier League. And, at £8m, there can be few players in the world who offer better value for money.
Obviously Manchester United’s current keeper situation is as clear as mud. While David de Gea seemed certain to make a move to Real Madrid earlier this summer, Manchester United are rightly digging their heels in over a deal and want their own ounce of flesh if they are to give up one of the top three goalkeepers in the world – a player who, lest we forget, isn’t even anywhere near his peak yet.
But, even if De Gea were to stay for another 12 months the signing of Begovic makes sense. He’s better than Valdes and far better than Anders Lindegaard. He could be a great back up to De Gea if the Spaniard stays and a great number one if De Gea does move on.
Let’s take a look at him in action. Manchester United fans: would you be happy to start next season with Asmir between the sticks at Old Trafford?
