Manchester United players headed back from all corners of the world to begin training again this morning, with David de Gea, Robin van Persie and Memphis Depay in attendance.
De Gea is of course in the middle of a tug of war between Manchester United and Real Madrid. We feel that he gave away how he felt about his situation at the weekend when he said:
“Real Madrid? I have to train over there [Manchester].
“I’m heading back to Manchester to begin preseason training.”
When asked about the ongoing transfer speculation linking him to Real, the Madrid-born De Gea said: “I’m calm.”
The ‘I’m calm’ bit suggests to us that he wants the move to go through.
As for Van Persie, his agent reckons that the player will continue at Manchester United despite recent reports that he has agreed a deal to move to Fenerbahce.
‘All I can say that tomorrow (Monday) Robin will simply report at Manchester United for the first training session.’
And Depay will be desperate to prove himself after his big money move at the start of the summer.
But for us, it’s most reassuring to see The Big Man, Wayne Rooney return as captain for another season.

We feel that Rooney has been the best player at Manchester United since Ronaldo left in 2009. During those 6 years he hasn’t always had the best team around him and that has obviously lead him to consider his future at times.
But this is a word class talent who deserves to be playing in a world class team. Although Manchester United still have some way to go to achieve that, you do feel that the club will bring in another 3 world class players this summer and Rooney will get huge benefit from that.
Angel di Maria and Memphis could well click up top and provide the sort of service that will get Wazza over the line as the top goalscorer in Manchester United’s history this season. And he definitely deserves to get a whole season at number 9 after helping out in so many positions over the last couple of years.
Rooney has been a titan for Manchester United and we think that his loyalty will pay huge dividends this season.
