Memphis Depay and Angel di Maria have both played centrally at times during their careers. But neither would be thought of as a prolific number 9 and both are better deployed from deep, where they can run at opponents.
So, with Falcao gone and RvP seemingly on his way to Turkey, Manchester United currently have only 19 year old James Wilson as a back up for Wayne Rooney next season. We love the look of Wilson – he’s quick, exciting and knows where the goal is.
But, with The Champions League also on the table next season, Manchester United will surely bring another striker to the club this summer.
Chicharito may be brought back to Manchester United but, despite breaking his collar bone last week, we still think he will move to another club this summer – he just doesn’t appear to be Louis van Gaal’s cup of tea.
Manchester United may well go for a household name – a Benzema or Higuain. But this may rock the boat. Because Wayne Rooney is surely expecting to play up top next season and Louis’s preferred 4-3-3 only allows for one centre forward.
So how about Alexandre Lacazette? The striker, who has been regularly linked with a move to Manchester United, was the top scorer in the French league last season at just 23, and he looks like he has a great career ahead of him.
He’s strong, quick and utterly ruthless in front of goal. Even though he wears the playmaker’s number 10 on his back at Lyon the guy is a finisher plain and simple – a player who can make his way into the Manchester United team over the next few years but won’t expect to play every minute of every game just yet.
We think that he is the perfect profile for the club and could turn out to be a canny investment.
Let’s take a look at the lad in action. Manchester United fans: the ideal signing as back up for Wazza next season?

He’d be a great addition to utd squad only if Val Gaal would sign him and not look for old names with high demand just to squander Man Utd’s resources.
