Barcelona don’t need major improvement to their side. After all, they became the first club in history to win two trebles when they rounded off a surprisingly good season with a comfortable Champions League win over Juventus at the start of the summer.
But they will surely look to improve their midfield after the departure of that living legend named Xavi.
They may not be able to replace him like for like – there are few players in the world with the same sort of accuracy and creativity in their passing as the veteran Spaniard – and all the hype over the last few weeks has been about Paul Pogba to Barcelona.
Barcelona fans may feel at something of a disadvantage in the chase for one of the best players in the world, because of the transfer ban which doesn’t end until January. But news today strongly suggests that Barcelona could be in with the best chance of signing the Frenchman.
British media outlet, The Daily Mail, reports:
Juventus to delay Paul Pogba decision until after Barcelona presidential elections
This would suggest that Barcelona are potentially the most serious suitors for his signature, depending of course on who wins the elections for the next president of the Catalan team. One of the candidates, Agusti Benedito, said:
‘Juventus will wait until the president is finally chosen,’
‘We wanted to talk to Juventus and they warned me that Pogba would cost £56m and he already had an offer from PSG.’
If Juve are waiting for Barcelona’s next move it may well indicate that the player himself sees El Camp Nou as his preferred destination. Even if he has to wait another few months, until the ban is lifted, to play for Barcelona, he may see it as a compromise worth making.
Meanwhile, Spanish media outlet Sport, has Tweeted that a deal has already been done:
Let’s see the genius in action. Barca fans: the ideal addition
