Liverpool are adamant that this deal won’t happen according to report

Sterling: Flyer

No Way

Liverpool are in turmoil over the Raheem Sterling affair. In yet another example of player power in the modern game, Sterling appears to want to leave Liverpool after the club failed to make it into The Champions League for next campaign, in what amounted to a hugely disappointing season.

But, in the light of reports that Manchester United are about to make a move – and that the player would be open to a hugely controversial transfer to Liverpool’s great rivals – The Liverpool Echo says that the club has no intention of letting such a deal happen.

Liverpool remain adamant they have no intention of doing business with Manchester United after it was reported that contract rebel Raheem Sterling is open to a controversial move to the Red Devils.

The Guardian claim that the 20-year-old would like to play for United but he is worried that the rivalry between the two clubs will affect any potential transfer.

United made a cheeky enquiry for the want-away star last month and were given a firm rebuff by Anfield chiefs – whose stance has not changed – but they are now said to be poised to return with a £25million bid for the player

The idea of Sterling joining Manchester United would make many Liverpool fans sick to their stomachs. But the notion that they could get him for anywhere near as little as £25m is possibly the most galling part of the affair.

We thought that the player would sort out his differences with Liverpool and settle down. We certainly think that it’s a great club for the 20 year old to continue his development as a footballer and such a big move at such a young age could well backfire.

But as the days pass it seems ever more likely that he will complete a transfer away from Merseyside and he seems to be burning his bridges with the club and the fans.

We wonder now whether there is any way back for the youngster at his current club. Liverpool fans: would you be prepared to forgive the lad if he made a U-turn and decided that he wanted to stay at Anfield?
