Unlikely

Yesterday new Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez referred to the lad in his opening press conference as manager and that has been followed up with this story that Manchester United are preparing a bid for Raheem Sterling. It seems that this one isn’t going away any time soon. The Mirror states:

Manchester United are set to make a £25million (34m Euros) offer for Raheem Sterling – kicking off a transfer-window arms-race over the unsettled Liverpool star.

United’s first approach for the player was firmly rejected by their arch-rivals last month.

But Louis van Gaal refuses to give up on Sterling, and United will further test the Anfield chiefs’ resolve by tabling a bid in the next few days.

At 20 years of age Sterling certainly isn’t the finished article. But he has the priceless quality of lighting pace and also possesses that rare talent for beating a man in a one on one.

He may well be a good addition for Manchester United but it still seems like a distant possibility considering the history and rivalry between the clubs.

And when you factor in the evidence that suggests several other teams are interested, then one can only assume that he won’t go to Manchester United.

Sterling - a very exciting youngster

Sterling – a very exciting youngster

You can’t fault Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal for trying however. With the right tutelage the youngster can be a devastating attacking tool – he didn’t show it so much last season – but a combination of Depay and Sterling on the flanks could set Manchester United up for years of success.

We said that RvP to Manchester United wouldn’t happen and were wrong. But we feel quite sure about this one being a non-starter.

Manchester United fans: can you see any possibility of such a move and would he get straight into the first team, with the likes of Depay, Di Maria and Young vying for the wide spots?
