Barcelona

Major transfer boost for Barcelona

Barcelona have gone from strength to strength during their transfer ban. They bought Luis Suarez in just before the ban and, while he has taken time to settle, he now looks part of the furniture.

Lionel Messi has put a disappointing last campaign behind him and looks almost as good as ever right now. And the general team performances have been high because Barcelona brought in the right man in the form of Luis Enrique, who ironed out some of the patchy autumn form and has taken his side back to The Champions League final as overwhelming favourites.

Even so, Barca must be itching to make another move in the market. With Xavi leaving the club this summer a midfield signing would have been really timely, but Barcelona will have to wait until January and hope that their main targets are still available.

To that end, Barcelona have had some decent news as one of their reported main targets, Paul Pogba, has not been approached by Los Blancos, according to the club itself. Madrid released a statement to say:

‘Following the reports published in the Italian newspaper La Stampa concerning an alleged offer from Real Madrid for the player Paul Pogba, the club wishes to state the following:

‘Real Madrid have had no contact either with Juventus or the player’s agent and, as a consequence, the reports published in this newspaper are completely false.’

Everyone wants Paul

Everyone wants Paul

Whether Real will go for him at some stage in the summer remains to be seen but Barcelona will at least be happy to hear that no contact has been made as yet, leaving them a flicker of hope that he may still join The Catalans.

He would be a super player for Barcelona – a different type of footballer to Xavi but one who could make just as big an impact.

Let’s see him in action. Barcelona fans: the best possible buy?
