53 Caps, 3 major honours: Liverpool set to sign Gerrard replacement according to report

Energy

Liverpool are in the middle of a tense contract battle with Raheem Sterling but Brendan Rodgers will be just as concerned with his other transfer plans as he looks to find a way back into the top four next season.

One player whose future has been the subject of constant speculation is James Milner. He was seen as a very peripheral member of the City squad until his season, which has been one of his best for the club.

That form, along with his contract situation, has lead to much reported interest and The Daily Star reports that Liverpool could now win the race for his signature, in a move to replace Steven Gerrard.

JAMES MILNER WILL join Liverpool this summer as Steven Gerrard’s replacement after giving Arsenal the elbow.

Milner, 29, is set to join on a free after his Manchester City contract comes to an end with the midfielder holding off talks about an Etihad extension.

Of course, Milner doesn’t have the skill set of Gerrard. But very few players do and Liverpool need to buy a character for the middle – a stepping stone, at least, to carry them out of the Gerrard era and onwards. Having won The Premier League twice and the FA Cup, Milner has become accustomed to success over the last few years and would certainly bring energy and commitment to the midfield. After several years in the margins, he would surely relish the opportunity for centre stage and we think he’d make a decent signing. And with 55 caps for England, he is a man of experience.

Let’s see Milner in action. Liverpool fans: keen?

Yes! Milner, imo, will do well in Liverpool.

Fully agree with you on that, Jofn. Most mediocre footballers do well playing for mediocre teams.

Liverpool doesn’t need a player like Milner and he can never replace Stevie. He has given all he has for city. Signing him will be like Colo and Lambert that had given their best and left over for Liverpool. Must we always buy players the top clubs rejected. Brendan doesn’t know the size of the club he’s managing. He must go for Liverpool to make any headway
