The latest mega story in The Premier League is how Manchester United have made an inquiry about the signing of Raheem Sterling. Manchester United rarely make it easy for themselves in the pursuit of excellence and they certainly won’t get this one over the line without a massive struggle.
What does now seem more likely is that he will leave his current club in the summer. With his bridges being burnt on a daily basis the likelihood is still that he will go elsewhere in The Premier League. Because not since 1964, and Phil Chisnall, has a player moved between these fiercest of rivals.
But let’s imagine for a second that Sterling does rock up at Manchester United. How would he fit into the team? We think that the lad is too young to be effective through the middle. His pace is much better deployed out wide. Furthermore, his crossing is currently better than his finishing. In Louis’s favourite 4-3-3 he may play wide right.
You might also imagine that if Raheem came in then Angel would leave. But we think that all three could play in an interchangeable and wonderfully pacey trio behind Wayne Rooney in a 4-2-3-1.
We think Manchester United are desperate for more pace in the side and Sterling, although not the finished article, would be a super addition – if he showed the form that dazzled The Premier League last season. But we maintain that his club would pretty much sell to anyone before Manchester United.
Manchester United fans: any chance of this signing happening?
