Manchester United: The biggest swap deal in history?

On?

There was a definite air of impending change at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Falcao wave told us that, despite rumours that a cut price fee may yet tempt Manchester United into signing him this summer, he is as good as gone already.

The future of Angel di Maria is also as clear as mud after he didn’t even get a cameo against Arsenal.

And with Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal publicly questioning the future of David de Gea, it seems ever more likely that the superb Spaniard has played his last game for the club.

But a club of Manchester United’s size doesn’t let it’s best players leave without a fight – or, at least, huge compensation.

It’s obvious that Manchester United want Gary Bale, and with only 3 goals in his last 19 games at Real Madrid, he is hardly winning fans over right now.

So surely De Gea has to be the vehicle with which Manchester United negotiate the biggest transfer of the summer. Losing De Gea will hit them hard but the acquisition of a player who can win them the title will surely be the compensation that they are looking for.

In fact, they should absolutely demand that Bale is part of any package which allows De Gea to leave the club.

Any such swap deal would comfortably be the biggest in football history with De Gea worth at least £25m – he has just a year left on his contract – and Real Madrid surely wanting to get most of their money back on Bale. In reality, we believe that Manchester United would be expected to pay around £50m and De Gea for the monster talents of Bale. And it would make the De Gea pill far easier to swallow.

Manchester United fans: is it a feasible deal?
