Historic day: Manchester United agree another momentous transfer deal

The signing of Depay signals a new era for United

New Era

Last summer much of the hype at Manchester United surrounded the £60m transfer of Angel di Maria from Real Madrid. And, although the fee for Memphis Depay is expected to be much smaller, United have today agreed another huge deal for a player who will possibly write his name in the history books of the club.

Because Manchester United have won the race for a genuine superstar in the making, as The BBC confirmed:

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Dutch forward Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven.

The fee is in the region of £25-30m with the deal believed to be until 2019, with the option of another year.

At 21, Depay could still still flop. But he has all the talent and potential to be an even bigger player than the current top man in the league, Eden Hazard.

Because, he has all the qualities of Hazard – pace, guile and genuine wizardry in the boots – but he’s got an even better physique, more like that of Cristiano Ronaldo than the Belgian. At 5ft 9in and change, he’s only a couple of inches taller than Hazard, but he’s an absolute beast of lad already.

Depay is the top scorer in The Dutch League and he doesn’t even play up top. Manchester United manager, Louis van Gaal will be delighted to have signed a player with such adaptability but is likely to use him as a wider forward in his preferred 4-3-3 next season.

After recent results this signing is just what the club needs – to make an early and decisive mark in the transfer window.

Manchester United will sign more players this summer – and possibly more expensive ones too – but they will have to go a long way to better this acquisition.

That will be another great addition to our team but the best signing for me will be to tie @daviddegea to a long term deal. We can’t lose him to madrid just like that. Request Modric and Isco for De Gea from Madrid and they will pull out
