West Ham

The right move for West Ham?

Unknown-1

What?

It seems that Sam Allardyce has been able to do little to garner the support of West Ham fans during his tenure. Even when West Ham rose to the heady top four positions early season, there was still the odd murmur of discontent.

The criticism levelled at Alloardyce is that he tends too much toward the long ball, Championship style systems of old, where his teams are physically competitive but often disregard the more beautiful football for a stoical style which grinds out results.

We have always maintained that this is an unfair criticism. The Hammers have often yo-yoed between the top tier and The Championship and, although their form has dipped over the last few months, Allardyce has brought solidity back to West Ham’s Premier League status.

He has also brought in some flair players up top and a midfielder from Barcelona – hardly the stuff of a long ball merchant.

But there remains a strong sense that Allardyce will leave at the end of the season with a decidedly bitter taste on the tongue. And latest reports suggest that West Ham want to replace him with the ex-Manchester United boss:

West Ham in fresh move to land top target David Moyes

We just can’t see the logic here. Allardyce has been getting results, but in a style that doesn’t please West Ham fans – so why would you replace him with Moyes?

The Scot is another solid and meticulous manager but one who has rarely been known for spectacular football. Like Allardyce, he puts rugged, stoical and resilient teams together. But he often prioritises grit over guile.

We will continue to annoy many West Ham fans by suggesting that Allardyce is being treated badly – you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone etc. – but surely the disenchanted fans wouldn’t see Moyes as the answer?

Moyes is no improvement on Allardyce, however Allardyce’s ultra conservative and lately appallingly brand of football has to end now. This nonsense of “be careful what you wish for” suggests that we should stick with him forever.

Mr Allardyce is a good defensive coach who sets his teams up to keep clean sheets and then hopefully nick a goal at the other end. He is not a good manager.
The players that we’re brought in last season were not his work and he has failed to get the best out of them while reverting back to his type of players instead.
Moyes is a better version of Allardyce and he would not suit the new era West Ham are moving into.
If West Ham want to compete with the big boys and produce a team to match their magnificent new stadium then they have to be brave and go all out to get a top class manager the rest will take care of it’s self.
