The plaudits are coming in thick and fast in the light of Manchester United turning the town red in the derby at the weekend.
After a crushing defeat for City, in which Marouane Fellaini was once more imperious, Wayne Rooney has waxed lyrical about his fellow ex-Evertonian on Manchester United’s Official website:
“He is probably the best in world football at bringing the ball down and getting us out of pressure and further up the pitch. He is being used in the right way by the manager and he is repaying that with goals and good performances.”
When the best player at Manchester United praises you then you know you are doing something right. Fellaini’s story has encapsulated the unpredictable nature of football. A few months back and the big Belgian was on the scrap heap at Manchester United but the boss has identified the strengths of the lad and used him properly. It’s paying huge dividends and, even though he’s not the most silky player in the world, it’s not just in the immediate short-term that he seems indispensable to the cause.
On this form you would have to assume that Fellaini can be one of the most important players in the team for years to come. With 6 goals in 25 league games from midfield for Manchester United this season, the 27 year old is finally starting to pay off his big transfer fee.
Let’s see that torpedo of a goal against Manchester City again. United fans: is Fellaini now a long term prospect for the club?
