With Manchester United taking on City in the derby this weekend the global sports brands are gearing up for the big one with some topical marketing.
But, with two of the best footballers in the world at their disposal, and a the sort of budget that would probably get Gary Lineker out of retirement, Puma have served up an unusually dull video indeed in the run up to the derby.
The sports giant is well-known for making some lovely looking and inspiring ads down the years. But this one doesn’t hit the right notes for us. In fact, it doesn’t hit any notes at all.
Manchester United star Radamel Falcao and Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero are the main men in this 90 second commercial. But, even the exceedingly well-remunerated players themselves look as if they are losing interest as they play a 1 a-side against each other which ends 2 a piece.
In truth, we are doing a disservice to the ad. Because, half way through they rather cleverly add a couple of supporters to the game. Yes, that really is it folks.
We have seen some great advertising campaigns from these guys in the past but this one is probably best forgotten. In fact we have forgotten it already. What were we talking about?
