It seems like an age since Barcelona signed a player and, because of their three window ban, they must wait until January for more investment.
But reports in England have been regularly suggesting that the next major signing for Barca will be the brilliant Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba.
With Xavi potentially leaving the club at the age of 35, Barcelona need a new playmaker to take the team forward. And while Pogba offers very different qualities to the Spaniard, he could have a similar impact.
Highly respected British broadsheet, The Guardian, opined at the weekend:
Barcelona keen on signing Paul Pogba, says Juventus’ Pavel Nedved
“We know that Barça and other big clubs want him,” Nedved said in an interview with El Mundo Deportivo newspaper. “But Pogba has a contract with us.”
The big problem for Barcelona is that the player is apparently wanted by some of the biggest clubs in the world and we sense that Juventus are prepared to sell this summer, if they get a price that they are happy with.
Officially Barcelona aren’t allowed to conduct any transfer business but that won’t stop them having high level talks with other clubs about future acquisitions.
Even if they had to agree on a price that is higher than what their peers are prepared to pay, in order to get Pogba next January, it would be a deal well worth doing. Pogba can be the next Yaya Toure at Barcelona with his drive, power and incredible feet. He not only gets from box to box effortlessly but also provides the sort of magic that only the chosen few in world football possess.
It’s been a long wait for Barcelona in terms of transfers but if they could deliver Pogba to their fans in January they would have a new superstar on their hands.
Let’s see the lad in action. Barcelona fans: keen?
