Nice Idea

With the monster, Yaya Toure, looking like a possible departure this summer the Manchester City midfield will need some serious thought. Even if Yaya stays on, then a long-term plan needs to be in place for the reinvigoration of the engine room.

The Daily Mail suggests that Manchester City will make moves for two English stars in the close season:

Manchester City to swoop for Jack Wilshere and Jordan Henderson during the summer

We are big fans of both and have little doubt that they would add bite and creativity to an area of the park which will miss Toure badly. The source suggests that, with just a year left on his contract, Henderson is gettable.

We aren’t so sure. They say that everyone has his price but, despite the fact that he still hasn’t signed a new contract, this is a man who seems exceedingly proud about the idea of captaining The Reds.

Just a week or so ago he claimed that he wants to be at the club for a long time:

“The contract issue is definitely NOT a distraction and it’s NOT a major issue.

“I love playing for Liverpool and I want to be there for many years.”

Things can change but we don’t think that Henderson is the type to renege on such a claim. His fidelity is one of the reasons that he is seen as an ideal successor to Steven Gerard as captain.

As for Wilshere, we think he’s possibly undervalued ta Arsenal. He has played as a number 4 at times this season but we love to see him a little further forward, driving at the opposition with the ball in a similar way to Yaya himself.

The two of them would represent a very interesting prospect as a partnership. But it’s going to be an extremely hard sell for Manchester City to convince them both to come.

Let’s see Wilshere in action. Manchester City fans: can he invigorate the midfield after Yaya?
