Manchester United: Bale, Di Maria swap?

United fans are yet to see the best of Di Maria

It makes sense

Two of the biggest signings of recent years haven’t yet become unbridled success stories at their current clubs.

In one corner you have Gareth Bale, whose stats – he’s scored 38 goals in 82 games for Real Madrid as a winger – would be regarded as sensational in England. But, as the most expensive player in the world, Bale is always going to be unfairly compared with that freak of nature, Cristiano Ronaldo, and one of them may leave Real Madrid this summer.

As for Angel di Maria he was adored in Spain by Real Madrid fans, especially in his last season for the club, and there was outrage when he was sold to Manchester United in the summer. Even the coach Carlo Ancelotti made it clear that he wanted the player to stay at Real Madrid:

“It was his decision to leave because the club did everything possible for him to stay by offering everything to him to stay.”

He has so far failed to live up to his price tag. In fact he has got nowhere near the heights of last season. A sublime goal against Leicester in September is the only real evidence that Manchester United have bought a worldie.

So would a Bale/Di Maria swap be so outlandish? Both are still in the prime of their career in terms of age. Both seem a little like ducks out of water in their current teams and leagues. And perhaps both could be open to the idea. Manchester United would ideally want both Bale and Di Maria in their side but would surely take the Welshman, given the choice of the two. Because, if the Argentinian has another poor season then his value will plummet. But we already know that Bale is perfect for The Premier League.

Real Madrid are apparently keen to keep Bale but we think that this will be one of the big stories of the summer.

Lets see Bale in action. Manchester United fans: would you swap Di Maria for Bale?
