Manchester United will do some big business in the summer but they will struggle to do a deal as good as the one which was announced this afternoon.
Because Manchester United have confirmed that they have extended the contract of Michael Carrick for another year. His new deal will run out in summer 2016, by which time he will be in his mid-thirties.
Currently 33, Carrick has shown no sign of losing his form. Despite a couple of injuries this season Carrick has returned a strong as ever and the team have certainly had their best performances with him on the park.
The official Manchester United website reported:
Michael Carrick has signed a one-year contract extension with Manchester United that will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2016.
He’s a natural athlete who has largely avoided major injury in his career and he looks fit as a fiddle right now. His contract extension means that Manchester United may wait another year before making a big midfield purchase. With other areas of the team in serious need of reinforcement Carrick and Daley Blind will continue to offer great cover in front of the defence.
Manchester United fans: do you still need investment in the midfield this summer?
