The player to lengthen BR’s Liverpool career?

Liverpool have been better of late. In truth, after a period where they seemed to drift aimlessly, they couldn’t have got much worse.

But the pressure is still on. For a man who looked like the most employable coach in football 9 months ago, Brendan Rodgers has appeared worryingly clueless at times during this hitherto clunky season. The worst part is that the poor form this season has made last campaign look like a fluke on the part of a manager who, some might argue, simply had to pick Luis Suarez every week to resemble a managerial genius.

The other big problem for the current Liverpool coach is that so few of his signings have done the business. While his best purchase, Daniel Sturridge, has been sidelined the legacy of Kenny Dalglish has hovered over the stadium as Jordan Henderson has gone from strength to strength.

It’s a critical time for Rodgers and he needs something good to happen as his stock at the club is comparatively low. Some might even argue that he is closer to the exit door than at any time of his Liverpool rein. Perhaps that olive branch will come from Lazar Markovic.

After a really slow and disorientated start Markovic is starting to have an impact. He’s beginning to come to the boil and looks like a player of stupendous potential – does anyone else think that this lad moves like Messi? Or is it just us?

In the run up to the Chelsea encounter this week, Markovic sounded the rallying call by saying that he doesn’t care that Chelsea reportedly decided against signing him when they had the chance. The Mirror quotes him as saying:

“I will not play to prove a point,” he said yesterday with the hint of a smile. “No, I will play like every other match and I don’t have to prove or show anything to him.

“He said I’m not good enough? That’s Mourinho’s opinion.”

It may seem fanciful to put all your faith into the Markovic basket right now. But with the team still under performing we feel that this guy can be the catalyst for quicker and more inventive attacking play. Markovic has magic in his boots and we think that he could be about to explode for Liverpool.

Let’s see some Markovic magic. Liverpool fans: how good can he become?
